Talend, a provider of data integration, ETL, and data quality software, recently announced it has acquired all rights to the master data management (MDM) technology of Amalto Technologies. As a result of this acquisition, Talend says it will be the first company to offer an open source MDM solution, providing organizations with the exact features and benefits found in proprietary MDM solutions, at a fraction of the cost. The MDM technology is a complement to Talend's open source data integration and data quality solutions, and will speed open source MDM time to market.

Xerox Corporation announced today that it intends to acquire Affiliated Computer Services, Inc., a business process outsourcing provider, in a cash and stock transaction valued at $6.4 billion. With this acquisition, Xerox says it will position itself for a leading role in document and business process management.

Kalido, a provider of information management software for enterprise data goverance, and Netezza, a provider of data warehousing and analytics appliances, have announced that Kalido has licensed and will directly sell a custom-built Netezza TwinFin data warehouse appliance engineered and optimized for the Kalido Information Engine and Kalido's new industry-specific analytics and reporting solutions.

Revelation Software is planning several road shows for the last quarter of 2009 and is soliciting input from users about where to host the events. Possible cities include: Boston, Mass.; Cincinnati, Ohio; Chicago, Ill.; Houston, Tex.; London, United Kingdom; Nashville, Tenn.; Seattle, Wash.; Sydney, Australia; Tampa, Fla.; Westwood, N.J.; and Vancouver, Canada. Votes for cities can be cast at the Revelation website. City selections will be announced in September.

Compared to the myriad group of "integrated" systems that most companies are managing today, master data management (MDM) solutions are much simpler to manage and maintain, and provide companies with more business benefits. Unfortunately, MDM technology is developing a reputation for being complicated and taking a long time to implement when the reality is that the process can be dramatically simplified if companies plan before they implement.

Cisco has released details on using Emulex's LightPulse Converged Network Adapters (CNAs) for its new Unified Computing System (UCS). Emulex's CNAs leverage eight generations of Fibre Channel technology to provide host LAN and Fibre Channel SAN connectivity over 10Gb/s Ethernet using FCoE and Enhanced Ethernet functionality. By enabling server I/O consolidation, Emulex says its CNAs reduce the number of NICs and cables used by the servers by as much as 50%, thereby reducing power consumption and lowering cooling costs in a server environment.
