Compuware Strobe, release 5.1, provides enhancements targeted at new or inexperienced mainframe users. The latest release of Compuware's mainframe application performance measurement and analysis solution offers a new GUI to centralize information about application performance and provides additional advice on how to resolve problems.

The newest generation of IBM's enterprise X-Architecture for System x and PureSystems servers provides improvements for analytics and cloud. The new architecture increases application performance by providing the low system write latency, essential for analytics applications. Memory and storage features also are designed to boost virtual machine capacity to enable SaaS delivery of applications.

Innovation Data Processing, a provider of mainframe tools, has rolled out FDRPASVM Version 5.4 Level 80, which is designed to enable migration of z/VM and Linux for System z volumes.

Applying development governance to mainframe assets helps enterprises overcome the significant architectural challenges inherent in bringing legacy systems into the API economy, where mobile apps need rapid, agile access to backend systems. To support these objectives, SOA Software has extended its Lifecycle Manager product to support API management on the mainframe.

Stratus Technologies, Inc., a provider of availability solutions, has launched everRun Enterprise, a solution intended to provide "mainframe-like" availability to Windows and Linux applications up. The software runs on Intel-based x86 servers without the need for specialized IT skills, Stratus says.

Veristorm is providing a commercial Hadoop distribution for Linux on the mainframe, with drag-and-drop access to mainframe databases and files. The platform, vStorm Enterprise, also enables access and analytics of sensitive mainframe data and other big data sources.
