Covering a range of business areas, including CRM, financial management, supply chain management, EBS is a backbone suite of ERP applications on which many companies rely to run their businesses. End of support is looming for 11i, Johnson says, and it's time to decide on 12.1.3 or 12.2 and start planning that upgrade now.

Newton, Mass.-based ScaleBase has announced the 3.0 version of its Distributed Database Platform. ScaleBase also introduced a beta program for a new product called Analysis Genie that helps companies determine the best way to scale out a database from a single MySQL instance to a distributed cluster by analyzing their schema and queries.

Oracle announced that fiscal 2014 Q3 total revenues were up 4% to $9.3 billion. In constant currency, Oracle's Cloud Software subscriptions revenues grew 25% and its Engineered Systems revenue grew more than 30% in the quarter, said Oracle president and CFO Safra Catz in a statement released by the company.

SAP underscored the company's strategy which focuses squarely on HANA and the cloud in a webcast presented by Jonathan Becher, chief marketing officer of SAP, and Vishal Sikka, member of the Executive Board of SAP AG, Products & Innovation. To take advantage of new Oracle Database capabilities, CSX Corporation, an international transportation company, upgraded more than 400 databases supporting critical commercial, packaged and proprietary business applications, including payroll, dispatching, and a customer-facing order entry system. Teradata and EMC have collaborated to provide a certified backup and recovery approach for Teradata Database customers. The Teradata and EMC partnership was formed in October 2013 when Teradata certified the Data Domain Operating System 5.4. Oracle has announced the fifth generation database machine, the Oracle Exadata Database Machine X4, which adds enhancements to improve performance and quality of service for OLTP, DBaaS (database as a service), and data warehousing. Tim Shetler, vice president of product management, Oracle, shared his views on the update in an interview. "There is no price change with this generation. It is the same price as before. We are just giving customers more capacity and more performance," said Shetler.
