Verizon has announced that Oracle is now offering customers secure connections to its cloud via Verizon's Secure Cloud Interconnect services. IBM and Xilinx have formed a multi-year strategic collaboration to enable higher performance and energy-efficient data center applications through Xilinx FPGA-enabled workload acceleration on IBM POWER-based systems. IBM and Xilinx, through a private signed agreement and collaboration through the OpenPOWER Foundation, are teaming to develop open acceleration infrastructures, software and middleware to address emerging applications such as machine learning, network functions virtualization (NFV), genomics, high performance computing (HPC) and big data analytics.

IBM has opened up a new online cloud marketplace for its new line of IBM Power8-based Linux servers - the Power LC (Linux cluster) Line, which was introduced last month. According to the report, the total lines of source code present today in Linux Foundation's Collaborative Projects are 115,013,302, and the estimated, total amount of effort required to retrace the steps of collaborative development for these projects is 41,192.25 person years.
