OpenInsight Development Suite (OI) 9.3.1 is now available from Revelation Software. The new release introduces the OpenInsight for QM Connector, which provides the ability to connect with the QM database from Ladybridge Systems Limited, as well as OI OpenInsight for Web (O4W v1.3), which provides additional integration with the new Banded Report Writer, support routines for RSS feeds, a new ad hoc report builder, and additional mobile enhancements such as mobile-specific menu and report output.

Rocket U2 has announced UniData 7.3. The first major UniData release since the U2 group was acquired by Rocket Software from IBM, UniData 7.3 represents over a year of work on a combination of development and QA. The new release delivers U2 Dynamic Objects (UDO), which enables an easier way to exchange data with web services and further extends the value of a UniData application. UDO also allows users to easily provide or consume data in JSON format. In addition, replication with External Database Access (EDA) can be used to replicate data to a SQL database on the same server.

The release of OpenInsight 9.3, the next version of Revelation Software's flagship product, is now imminent, and includes many new features eagerly awaited by Revelation customers. On track to be generally available by the end of the year, Robert Catalano, director of sales at Revelation, says that data encryption is among the major new components in OpenInsight 9.3. "Data encryption will be a key component that will be built into the database. It is data encryption at rest and that means that you can specify tables and fields that are sitting in on your disk drive and that data will be encrypted."

Rocket U2 now has an improved way of releasing clients and tools and instead of labeling them as UniData clients or UniVerse clients, it will now release U2 Clients and DB Tools that work for both databases. The first release, U2 Clients, consisting of the client APIs and DB Tools, will include the tools based on the Eclipse development platform.

Revelation Software drew attendees from not just the U.S., but also Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Germany, Switzerland, England and Canada, to its recent users conference held in Las Vegas. "We had representation from developers all over the world," says Robert Catalano, Revelation's director of sales. According to Catalano, attendees came for the education, networking, and in particular to hear more about Revelation's upcoming release of OpenInsight 9.3, which will be generally available later this year.

Rocket Software has announced that U2 DataVu has been enhanced to make it easier to combine queries and results then filter and quickly create reports and charts with a couple of clicks using the quick report wizard. The new release provides drilldown scenarios to enable end users to slice their data so they can drill into different views of their results. Terrill, which provides property and casualty, and employee benefit products and services, has selected Entrinik's Informer software for its automated scheduling and distribution capabilities, Live Excel integration capabilities and multiple output operations. The agency is using Vertafore's Sagitta agency management system and had been manually creating and distributing recurring reports, and using Excel to customize the reports and create-user specific versions. They would then distribute the reports via email attachments.

Revelation Software has announced the availability of the latest release of OpenInsight Development Suite (OI), version 9.2.1, and the Universal Driver 4.7. OI 9.2.1 features OpenInsight for Web v.1.1. (O4W), a new version of the web 2.0 development toolkit that enables OpenInsight and MultiValue developers to rapidly create browser based forms, reports, menus, dashboards and programs. Additionally, in OI 9.2.1, Source Code Management (SCM), a new feature, enables source code to be grouped into modules and saved as a unique version as the code is compiled. With the new release, the system editor has also been redesigned to improve speed and functionality; and the U2 connector has been redesigned to utilize the UniObjects .NET library instead of the Intercall libraries, a change that allows the implementation of connection pooling.
