Temenos, a provider of software to the financial services industry, has announced that Cairo Amman Bank, a full service bank with 106 branches in Jordan and Palestine, has gone live with T24, Temenos' core banking system based on jBASE technology. The deployment of T24 replaced the bank's legacy core banking system and consolidates multiple banking modules, helping the company achieve improvements in operational efficiency including automation of real time gross settlement payments and laying the infrastructure to support sustained growth in income and profitability.

Rocket U2 is now providing a single ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) driver for UniData and UniVerse that supports both 32-bit and 64-bit systems. The driver provides a standard interface for user applications, third-party reporting and BI tools to connect with data sources. In addition, the U2 Metadata Manager (U2 MDM) is now also available for UniVerse 11.1.11 and above.

Revelation Software recently held its user conference in Nashville, Tenn. "At the conference, we really emphasize training," Robert Catalano, director of sales at Revelation, tells DBTA. At this year's event, particular emphasis was placed on O4W training, he notes. Oklahoma City Housing Authority (OCHA) has selected Informer Dashboards from Entrinsik to help it quickly and easily create and share data visualizations. Informer Dashboards answers a pressing need for OCHA. The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has various reporting guidelines for housing authorities that require a significant amount of data to ensure compliance. HUD is beginning to require dashboards as a way of presenting this data and OCHA had no easy way of quickly and easily developing the necessary visualizations.

Revelation Software plans to include support for OpenID authentication as part of OpenInsight for Web (O4W), a web development toolkit that makes it possible for OpenInsight developers with limited or no HTML, XML or JavaScript experience to develop feature-rich web pages. OpenID allows people to use an existing account to sign in to multiple websites without the need to create new passwords. The new capability will be included in O4W as part of the OpenInsight 10.0 release, which is currently under development, Robert Catalano, director of sales at Revelation, tells DBTA.

Rocket Software has announced the general availability of the Rocket U2 Toolkit for .NET v1.2 (U2NETDK), which delivers Microsoft .NET interfaces for the UniVerse and UniData data servers. The new release allows .NET programmers to leverage the Microsoft .NET Framework and CLR (Common Language Runtime) with the U2 databases.

Entrinsik has launched a traveling road show to provide Informer training. The idea for the Informer Power Users Road Show grew out of the success of the ICON Informer user conference and the feedback Entrinsik was receiving about the Informer customer service team's on-site work with individual clients, Sharon Shelton, vice president of marketing at Entrinsik, tells DBTA. "The road shows are really an answer to the question: How do we provide this service for more of our client base - especially those who can't make it to ICON, or don't have the resources to afford implementation and training services on-site. We are trying to get the best information out to customers in a way that is cost-efficient for them and for us," Shelton says.

MultiValue technology veteran Mark Pick recently launched a new company, Pick Cloud, Inc. Here, Pick - whose father Dick Pick is widely credited as having been a founding father of MultiValue software - discusses the reasons he embarked on the new venture and his goals for the company. "A lot of people worry about latency issues in moving to the cloud, but of all the applications that exist out there, a traditional Pick application is very thin, very low bandwidth so that wasn't going to be an issue," Pick tells DBTA. "And, when we go down the list of things that we can provide for our customers, number-one, it is fast and easy to deploy."

To improve quality and time to market for new features in the U2 product line, going forward, Rocket U2 will have two separate development labs: U2 Database Servers and U2 Tools, according to Susie Siegesmund, vice president and general manager, Rocket Software. Each lab will comprise development, QA, product management, information development and support, and from a customer perspective, there will be little, if any, change. However, the reorganization will change the management team, and some of the individuals with whom customers interact.

David has been a MultiValue programmer working primarily on the Universe platform for 10 years. He has supported the CUBS software package for a tax /medical collection agency in Pennsylvania, and started his MultiValue career at Market America helping develop the back end of their web site which also ran on the Universe database platform.

Rocket Software has launched CorVu NG v2.2.3, merging U2 DataVu into its CorVu product for strategic performance management and business intelligence, and adding new features. U2 customers will be able to purchase the entire suite of CorVu Performance Management modules. Development has started on Revelation Software's next release of OpenInsight (OI) which will include a 32-bit and 64-bit implementation of the product. OI 10.0 will include a range of new components, including an embedded web server in the OEngineServer for use with the O4W_CHILD_FORM and O4W_STANDALONE_FORM; a WYSIWYG O4W Form Designer; as well as provide increased performance on 64-bit operating systems.

UK-based Ladybridge Systems is making the OpenQM MultiValue database software available on the Raspberry Pi computer. The Raspberry Pi computer launched in February 2012 by the Raspberry Pi Foundation is a credit card-sized computer with a price tag of under $35, featuring 512MB RAM, SD card data storage, two USB ports, high definition video and Ethernet connectivity. Primarily intended as an educational tool, enthusiasts have purchased these devices as fast as they can be manufactured, says Ladybridge. "Making OpenQM available on the Raspberry Pi is one element of a project to increase awareness of the MultiValue data model," says Martin Phillips, technical director of Ladybridge Systems.

Entrinsik, Inc., has announced that its Informer self-service reporting and business intelligence software is now listed on SugarCRM'sSugarExchange and can integrate directly with SugarCRM implementations. Through the integration between Entrinsik and SugarCRM, users can log into Sugar and access real-time reporting, data analysis and interactive dashboards. Rocket U2 has announced that U2 Web Development Environment (U2 Web DE) V5.0.3 has been released, and is available for the minimum database levels of UD 7.2 and UV 10.3. U2 Web DE was re-architected at V5.0 to take advantage of native UO connectivity and Connection Pooling, bringing new functionality to U2 developers who want to create web applications or extend existing U2 Web DE applications to new markets. Separately, Rocket U2 also announced that it is making a new webcast available on demand. Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa., is using Entrinsik's Informer software to keep its emergency notification system refreshed with the most up-to-date information. According to Sharon Shelton, vice president of marketing at Entrinsik, who describes the implementation in a new blog post this month on the Entrinsik website, the college purchased a new emergency notification system and they wanted the system updated frequently. The project was a high priority for the college because it needed to be able to get messages out to the students, faculty and staff in case of emergencies.

Revelation Software is in the final stages of releasing OpenInsight Development Suite 9.3.2 to beta testers. This interim release includes both enhancements and fixes in a range of areas, Robert Catalano, director of sales at Revelation, tells DBTA. The new release adds the ability to generate dynamic dictionaries on the fly from the Banded Report Writer. In addition, O4W will be updated from 1.3 to 1.4 and will include an enhanced PHP interface to provide better performance.

Earlier this month, Rocket U2 kicked off U2 University in Denver with the first-ever Rocket Day. "We had over 150 people attend the keynote session and business unit overviews before splitting into the three separate technical tracts and two hands-on lab sessions held simultaneously. We released the new U2 Toolkit for .NET (U2NETDK) the Friday prior to the event, and had two very well-attended sessions on this new offering," notes Susie Siegesmund, vice president and general manager, U2 Brand, Rocket Software.

Sharon Shelton, vice president of marketing at Entrinsik, showcases Hawaii Human Resources (HiHR), a company using HRPyramid and Entrinsik Informer to help provide customized HR solutions to nearly 250 clients, in a new blog post this month on the Entrinsik website. Prior to purchasing Informer, HIHR was limited to the stock reports and unable to extract the specific data needed for internal and external reporting purposes, Shelton explains. But, since deploying Informer, HiHR has created almost 200 reports, including basic census, 401K reporting, and code file listings, and the company also makes heavy use of more advanced Informer functionality, such as Live Excel.

Rocket U2 has announced UniData 7.3. The first major UniData release since the U2 group was acquired by Rocket Software from IBM, UniData 7.3 represents over a year of work on a combination of development and QA. The new release delivers U2 Dynamic Objects (UDO), which enables an easier way to exchange data with web services and further extends the value of a UniData application. UDO also allows users to easily provide or consume data in JSON format. In addition, replication with External Database Access (EDA) can be used to replicate data to a SQL database on the same server.
