IBM introduced a new cloud security technology that helps safeguard the increasing use of "bring-your-own" cloud-based apps at work. Cloud Security Enforcer combines cloud identity management (Identity-as-a-Service) with the ability for companies to discover outside apps being accessed by employees, including those they are using on their mobile devices. These combined capabilities enable companies to equip their workforce with a secure way to access and use the apps that they want.

Continuity Software, a provider of IT operations analytics for infrastructure outage prevention, unveiled a new release of its AvailabilityGuard software, intended to provide enterprise IT teams with advanced predictive analytics, risk detection, and outage prevention capabilities across their software-defined data centers. "The transition towards the software-defined data center delivers higher levels of agility and control to IT organizations, but at the same time presents new challenges," said Doron Pinhas, CTO of Continuity Software.

Ricoh Company, Ltd, the printing and document management company, is using Oracle's SPARC T5 servers with Oracle ZFS Storage Appliances and Oracle Database to analyze data from RICOH @Remote, its real-time support service for customers in more than 100 countries and regions. To unify the data across the company for accurate views and analysis, Ricoh built a private cloud accessible by the entire remote service group that allows high speed access from internal networks.

Virtustream, which was recently acquired by EMC, is strengthening its partnership with SAP, becoming one of a select few global partners providing cloud infrastructure services for SAP business-critical applications in SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud. The collaboration will allow SAP to leverage Virtustream's xStream Cloud Management Platform and its Micro-VM technology to deliver an IaaS with Service Level Agreements covering application performance.

VMware recently made a slew of announcements spanning cloud deployments, data center, and devices. The company introduced what it calls the first fully automated software suite for delivering the software-defined data center as an integrated system. Serving as a foundation of VMware's Unified Hybrid Cloud platform, the solution, called VMware EVO SDDC, will extend the virtualization principals of abstraction, pooling and automation across all data center resources and services.

Oracle has expanded its flash storage portfolio with the announcement of an all-flash model of its Oracle FS1 Flash Storage System. Designed to handle concurrent mixed workloads, such as OLTP and high-speed data backup, in enterprise SAN environments as well as in private or public clouds, the system delivers up to 64 all-flash domains, and enables secure data isolation in multitenant cloud environments.

Basho Technologies, the creator and developer of Riak software, has announced that, in collaboration with Cisco, it has developed a framework enabling the Riak KV NoSQL database to run on Apache Mesos, bringing operational efficiency and high-elasticity to big data services. "The goal is to try and simplify and make it easy for clients to get business solutions as quickly as possible instead of worrying about the distributed data tier," said Adam Wray, CEO of Basho.

Furthermore, over the last 18 months, IBM has secured nearly 1,200 cloud patents, bolstering the company's ability to deliver innovative new cloud services, solutions and capabilities to clients across all industries. Platform9, which provides an OpenStack powered service that allows an organization to turn its existing servers into a self-service private cloud, has announced general availability of Platform9 Managed OpenStack for VMware vSphere environments. The new solution enables interoperability of OpenStack with VMware vSphere and is intended to facilitate OpenStack adoption among VMware customers.

To support developers and operations professionals in their push to implement DevOps principles for their infrastructure environments, ProfitBricks, a provider of cloud infrastructure, is adding support for DevOps tools Ansible and Chef. Ansible is a platform for configuring and managing data center infrastructure that combines multi-node software deployment, ad hoc task execution, and configuration management, and is used by DevOps professionals as they use its playbooks functionality to automate cloud infrastructure. Chef, which is written in the Ruby programming language, makes it easier to manage complex infrastructure and the applications running on it.

The company is creating a new public holding company called Alphabet, with Google as well as other companies, housed within the new structure. According to Larry Page, CEO of Google, the reorganization is part of an effort to avoid getting "too comfortable," observing in a blog post that in the tech industry, "where revolutionary ideas drive the next big growth areas, you need to be a bit uncomfortable to stay relevant.
