Google, whose name became synonymous with internet search, is reorganizing to maintain its innovation and competitiveness. The company is creating a new public holding company called Alphabet, with Google as well as other companies, housed within the new structure. According to Larry Page, CEO of Google, the reorganization is part of an effort to avoid getting "too comfortable," observing in a blog post that in the tech industry, "where revolutionary ideas drive the next big growth areas, you need to be a bit uncomfortable to stay relevant.

IBM launched a new program intended to mentor and energize students to innovate using IBM Cloud technologies. The program, called the Academic Initiative for Cloud, will create cloud development curricula using Bluemix, IBM's platform-as-a-service, in over 200 universities, reaching more than 20,000 students in 36 countries. The company also announced a series of industry Hackathons reaching tens of thousands of new developers and a set of diversity programs for women coders.

Oracle has taken the wraps off Oracle VM VirtualBox 5.0, the latest release of the free and open source, cross-platform virtualization software. Now generally available, Oracle VM VirtualBox runs on standard x86 desktop and laptop computers, and enables developers and users to create cloud and local applications without the overhead of using a full server environment.

RedPoint Global's two platforms, Interaction and Data Management, are now available on the Microsoft Azure Marketplace, giving data-driven marketers access RedPoint's data and campaign management tools on the cloud for the first time. Veritas, Symantec's information management business, has introduced new offerings, which it says, address the needs of rapidly evolving enterprise data centers, and provide significant upgrades to its core portfolio of backup and information management products. A previously announced operational separation of Veritas and Symantec is scheduled for October 2015, with the complete separation to take place by January 2016.
