The SAP ERP Financials solution, part of the SAP Business Suite, has new capabilities powered by HANA to provide users with a common source of information, new reporting and analytics, and an easier user experience. Currently in ramp-up phase, SAP's early adoption program for customers, the new innovations will be generally available in a few months, according to Amit Sinha, SVP, platform and applications marketing at SAP.

Ariba, an SAP company that provides cloud-based procurement solutions, is moving to SAP HANA, the company's in-memory platform for real-time computing. The initial step, involving the transition of Ariba Spend Visibility has been completed and the company is now shifting the Ariba Network to the platform. "We have been running cloud operations here for 15 years at Ariba, and we have a mature cloud platform, said SAP Ariba engineering vice president Mark Dao.

EMC is acquiring DSSD, Inc., a developer of rack-scale flash storage architecture for I/O-intensive in-memory databases and big data workloads. At an event in NYC, Oracle president Mark Hurd and EVP John Fowler unveiled Solaris 11.2, which represents an evolution from operating system to a complete platform, they said. Red Hat is collaborating with Google to enable Red Hat customers to move eligible Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscriptions to Google Compute Engine using Red Hat Cloud Access. SAP has officially announced Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) 16, a major release of the company's RDBMS, as well as Replication Server, 15.7 SP200 which includes synchronous replication for HA/DR for SAP Business Suite on ASE. It has been 9 years since Sybase (acquired by SAP in 2010) announced ASE 15 in August 2005. With the new release, said Dan Lahl, SAP VP, Database & Technology Marketing, SAP is providing "the right system of record that is going to be able to handle the new world of transaction processing."

Cloudera has launched what it describes as the industry's first hands-on Cloudera Certified Professional: Data Scientist (CCP:DS) data science certification. According to Cloudera, it is launching the data science certification program now to address to address a pressing challenge in the IT industry: job openings for data scientists are currently outpacing the supply of these in-demand workers, a situation that is aggravated by the fact that there has historically not been a clearly established skill set or university degree that an individual could acquire to qualify as a data scientist.
