Oracle has announced plans to hire nearly 2,000 employees worldwide to work on its growing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure business. Elastic N.V., the company behind Elasticsearch and the Elastic Stack, is introducing Elastic Endpoint Security, based on Elastic's acquisition of Endgame, a provider of endpoint threat prevention, detection, and response based on the MITRE ATT&CK matrix. Elastic is combining SIEM and endpoint security into a single solution to enable organizations to automatically and flexibly respond to threats in real time, whether in the cloud, on-premises, or in hybrid environments. Also announced today, Elastic is eliminating per-endpoint pricing.

Building on Oracle and Microsoft's cloud interoperability partnership, Oracle has announced the availability of an integration between Oracle Digital Assistant and Microsoft Teams. Enterprise customers can now access Oracle Cloud Applications through an AI-powered voice experience in Teams. "Using Oracle Digital Assistant, business users can simply and conversationally interact with business applications directly from their Microsoft Teams interface just as they would collaborate with their fellow employees or other productivity tools," said Suhas Uliyar, vice president, AI and Digital Assistant, Oracle.

Oracle and VMware have expanded their partnership. With this new solution, customers will be able to migrate VMware vSphere workloads to Oracle's Generation 2 Cloud Infrastructure. As part of this partnership, Oracle will also provide technical support for Oracle software running in VMware environments both in customer on-premise data centers and Oracle-certified cloud environments.

As the name implies, Object Storage is OCI's cloud object store and is comparable to Amazon's S3 storage service or Microsoft's Azure Storage. Object Storage can be accessed through myriad interfaces and tools including the OCI web portal, a command-line interface, a REST API, an Amazon S3-compatible API, a Swift API, and a number of SDKs. This article will be limited to using the web portal and the Swift API, which is used by Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) to interact with the Object Storage service.

Back in the 1980s, a Stanford University computer scientist and professor named Donald Knuth introduced the concept of "literate programming," in which a computer program's logic is explained in a natural language such as English. The "literate" program would be further enriched with images, graphs, traditional source code, related macros, and scripts almost as if the programmer were writing an essay, and using all of these components together could still be compiled as usual. The most notable products to arise from this concept were notebooks, such as Azure Notebooks, Jupyter Notebooks, Apache Zeppelin, and the Apache Spark Notebook.
