Due to my background working with other major database platforms such as Oracle, MySQL, and PostgreSQL, I've long been an advocate for the SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA). This powerful and easy product can quickly and effectively migrate most popular relational database platforms into SQL Server. The migration process using SSMA usually results in a 80/20 or 90/10 migration, in which 80%-90% of the database objects migrate without an issue. But 10%-20% typically requires additional hand-holding and manual migration work.

Data onboarding is a crucial but painstaking process that holds back individual companies and entire industries from reaching their full potential. The last thing a company wants is to lose a client over frustration due to data migration. A new survey of 5,000 managers and executives—many from outside IT departments—conducted by Flatfile has found that more than three-quarters of respondents either "sometimes or often" run into problems onboarding data.

Oracle is providing tools, solutions, and support to fuel Arm-based application development. Oracle also announced that its first Arm-based compute offering, OCI Ampere A1 Compute, is available on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). "We see increasing demand for server-side Arm computing and adding Arm-based compute instances to our extensive portfolio of offerings enables customers to pick and choose the right processors for their workloads," said Clay Magouyrk, executive vice president, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

Morpheus Data, the hybrid cloud application orchestration company, is releasing a significant update of its platform, aiming to help enterprise customers streamline the transition to containers and simplify the adoption of infrastructure-as-code. Cloudera has announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by affiliates of Clayton, Dubilier & Rice (CD&R) and KKR in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $5.3 billion. The transaction will result in Cloudera becoming a private company and is expected to close in the second half of 2021. The agreement also includes a 30-day "go-shop" period expiring on July 1, 2021.

To support growing customer demand for cloud services in Brazil, Oracle has opened the Vinhedo cloud region. The new region follows the launch of its São Paulo cloud region last year, making Brazil Oracle's latest country offering dual cloud regions. The opening marks Oracle's 30th cloud region worldwide and is part of Oracle's global plan to operate 38 cloud regions by the end of 2021. Airbyte, creator of an open source data integration platform, has raised more than $26 million in Series A funding. The company says it solves two problems: First, companies always have to build and maintain connectors on their own—most "long tail'' data connectors are orphans that are not supported by closed-source ELT technologies. Second, data teams often have to do custom work around pre-built connectors to make them work within their data architecture. The open source approach addresses both problems with a user community that supports more connectors, which can be shared and used widely.
