Ricoh Company, Ltd, the printing and document management company, is using Oracle's SPARC T5 servers with Oracle ZFS Storage Appliances and Oracle Database to analyze data from RICOH @Remote, its real-time support service for customers in more than 100 countries and regions. To unify the data across the company for accurate views and analysis, Ricoh built a private cloud accessible by the entire remote service group that allows high speed access from internal networks.

Percona, a provider of enterprise-class MySQL and MongoDB solutions and services, is introducing Percona Server for MongoDB, an enhanced, open source, fully compatible drop-in replacement for MongoDB Community Edition that offers additional enterprise features and lower total cost of ownership. StrongLoop is a provider of application development software - known as enterprise Node.js - that enables software developers to build applications using APIs (application programming interfaces). VMware recently made a slew of announcements spanning cloud deployments, data center, and devices. The company introduced what it calls the first fully automated software suite for delivering the software-defined data center as an integrated system. Serving as a foundation of VMware's Unified Hybrid Cloud platform, the solution, called VMware EVO SDDC, will extend the virtualization principals of abstraction, pooling and automation across all data center resources and services.

Syncsort, a provider of specialized solutions for big data, is making a major open source contribution to the IBM z Systems mainframe with a connector for Apache Spark. Syncsort's mainframe connector conforms to Spark's Data Sources API specification, and because of Spark's ability operate on data in memory, the connector will allow queries to access mainframe data without offloading the data first.

Hortonworks, a provider of enterprise Hadoop, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Onyara, Inc., the creator of and key contributor to Apache NiFi, an open source project. The acquisition will make it easy for customers to automate and secure data flows fueling the fueling the "Internet of Anything (IoAT)" and to collect, conduct and curate real-time business insights and actions derived from data in motion. As a result of the acquisition, Hortonworks is introducing Hortonworks DataFlow powered by Apache NiFi, which was made available through the NSA Technology Transfer Program in the fall of 2014. The Hortonworks acquisition of Onyara is expected to close in the third quarter of 2015.

Basho Technologies, the creator and developer of Riak software, has announced that, in collaboration with Cisco, it has developed a framework enabling the Riak KV NoSQL database to run on Apache Mesos, bringing operational efficiency and high-elasticity to big data services. "The goal is to try and simplify and make it easy for clients to get business solutions as quickly as possible instead of worrying about the distributed data tier," said Adam Wray, CEO of Basho.

Data integration software provider Informatica has been acquired by a company controlled by the Permira funds and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB). Microsoft Corporation and Salesforce Ventures, Salesforce's corporate investment group, are also strategic investors in the company alongside the Permira funds and CPPIB. In making the announcement, Informatica said the new ownership would allow it continue to grow while taking a longer view rather than focusing on quarters.
