Rocket Software, a global software leader for IBM Z and IBM i, has announced the availability of Rocket Terminal Emulator. The new release, the company said, is the culmination of decades of investment in a critical and often-overlooked technology space. "Our years of investment in terminal emulators have delivered a feature-rich, highly configurable solution that enhances host access for users while keeping costs low," said Christopher Wey, president of the Rocket business unit that develops cross-platform utilities. "We are offering this software upgrade at no cost to every Rocket terminal emulation customer, including BlueZone and Passport users, ensuring all Rocket customers have exceptional access to critical systems."

GridGain Systems, provider of enterprise-grade in-memory computing solutions powered by the Apache Ignite distributed database, has announced GridGain 8.8, a new release that provides enhanced support for GridGain's multi-tier database engine, which scales up and out across memory and disk. The changes enable customers to leverage the disk tier of the database to query much larger datasets, reduce total cost of ownership, and secure sensitive or personal data at rest. This will enable them to use GridGain for a greater number of production use cases, ranging from complex real-time analytics to mission-critical transactional workloads.

Red Hat has announced plans to acquire StackRox, a provider of container and Kubernetes-native security. By bringing StackRox's Kubernetes-native security capabilities to Red Hat OpenShift, Red Hat's enterprise Kubernetes platform, Red Hat says it will further its vision to deliver a single, holistic platform that enables users to build, deploy and securely run nearly any application across the entirety of the hybrid cloud.

IBM Security is offering a new service that allows companies to experiment with fully homomorphic encryption (FHE)—an emerging technology designed to allow data to remain encrypted even while being processed or analyzed in cloud or third-party environments. Building on groundwork and tools developed IBM Research and IBM Z, the new IBM Security Homomorphic Encryption Services provide a scalable hosting environment on IBM Cloud, along with consulting and managed services to help clients begin learning about and designing prototype solutions which can take advantage of FHE.

MariaDB Corporation is releasing the MariaDB Connector/R2DBC, exposing a non-blocking API that interacts with MariaDB databases, including MariaDB SkySQL, to create fully reactive solutions. Reactive Relational Database Connectivity (R2DBC) is a new, emerging standard in the Java world. R2DBC enables applications to benefit from reactive programming by using a stream-oriented approach to interact with relational databases.

Oracle has opened its new Chile Cloud Region, marking Oracle's 29th Cloud region worldwide. The opening is part of Oracle's plan to have 38 Cloud regions by the end of 2021. The Chile Cloud region will provide reduced latency to organizations, decreasing the time it takes for data to be transferred from the data center where the application data is hosted. In addition, the move to an Oracle Cloud region helps security-focused enterprises that need to meet demanding data residency requirements.

Truera, providers of a Model Intelligence platform, has raised $12 million in Series A funding that will accelerate recruiting, product development, and sales and marketing. The round was led by Wing VC with participation from returning investors Conversion Capital and Greylock and new investors Data Community Fund, B Capital Group via the firm's Ascent Fund, and Harpoon Ventures. This brings Truera's total funding to date to $17.3M.

Phoenix Software International has expanded its source code licensing agreement with IBM for IBM z/OS JES3. As part of the agreement, Phoenix Software International plans to build on their initial JES3 source code license to add additional components in the Bulk Data Transfer space. According to Phoenix Software, this enables it to bring to market a new set of product offerings, including derivative Bulk Data Transfer (BDT) components, File-to-File for JES2, JES3 and JES3plus environments and System Network Architecture (SNA) Network Job Entry (NJE) for JES3 and JES3plus environments, planned for 2021.
