CA Technologies announced "Day One" support for IBM DB2 10 for z/OS across more than 30 products, including CA Database Management for DB2 for z/OS, CA ACF2, CA Top Secret security management solutions and CA Easytrieve application reporting. Rocket Software has introduced new Mainstar technology designed to clone IMS systems without the need to shut them down to do so. Now, instead of waiting for hours, companies can have a clone in minutes at a lower cost without affecting production, the vendor says.

An independent consortium of enterprises and IT vendors, called The Open Data Center Alliance, has been launched, and its first deliverable is the Alliance's 0.5 Usage Model Roadmap, which lays out open, interoperable solutions that can be sourced from multiple vendors and interoperate across data centers.

Oracle announced the StorageTek Virtual Library Extension (VLE), one of the industry's first highly scalable second tiers of disk storage that optimizes tape processing in mainframe environments. Oracle says the new offering delivers two times the disk scalability to boost performance and accommodate growing workloads, along with five times the availability of current mainframe tape solutions.

In a joint project, SAP and IBM have executed a proof of concept (PoC) to show the business advantages of taking an integrated end-to-end enterprise architecture approach with an Intel processor-based strategy. Called "IBM BigX for SAP applications," the PoC showed how an integrated hardware and software "Blue Stack" using IBM and SAP best practices and infrastructure virtualization complements SAP Business Suite applications, delivering lower system complexity, easier management, and reduced costs.

Already a Platinum member of the OPN, Pythian has met a series of demanding technical and business requirements to earn the specializations in Oracle Database 11g, Real Application Clusters (RAC), Database Performance Tuning, and Oracle Linux. Trusted Computer Solutions (TCS), a developer of cross-domain, operating system and network security solutions, has announced that it has partnered with Vicom Infinity, an IBM Premier Business Partner System z reseller, to offer TCS' automated operating system hardening tool to customers across all industries, especially finance and insurance, throughout North America, Canada and Australia. Security Blanket will enable Vicom Infinity mainframe users to assess Linux VMs and identify security vulnerabilities using pre-defined industry or customized security guidelines, and automatically configure the Linux VMs to a hardened state.
