Clerity, a provider of mainframe migration and modernization solutions, announced today that its UniKix mainframe rehosting software suite now supports Microsoft Windows Server 2008. Clerity's mainframe rehosting software provides an environment for deploying online and batch mainframe CICS, IMS, IDMS, Adabas, Natural, and other legacy assets on open, standards-based systems. By leveraging existing applications, skill sets, and data investments, Clerity states, its technology reduces ongoing IT costs from 30% to 70% and optimizes legacy investments without diminishing current functionality or adding risk into the migration process.

Luminex Software, Inc., a developer and provider of disk-based mainframe virtual tape products and technologies, and Kanematsu Electronics Ltd. (KEL) have extended and expanded their partnership in Japan for mainframe virtual tape. KEL has been selling the Luminex mainframe virtual tape technology as KEL EG4500-E to the largest companies and organizations in Japan for a decade already. The latest version of the KEL EG4500-E now includes Luminex's low-profile PCIexpress FICON and ESCON channel adapters and virtual tape emulation software.

CA has announced the acquisition of certain data center automation and policy-based optimization expertise and assets from Cassatt Corporation, a provider of cloud computing software that helps makes data centers more efficient. Cassatt's Rob Gingell, executive vice president of product development and chief technology officer, and Steve Oberlin, chief scientist and co-founder, have joined CA, along with their team of developers, engineers, and other key employees. In addition, CA has acquired several Cassatt patents and patent applications, as well as other intellectual property.

Emulex's LightPulse 8Gb/s Fibre Channel CIOv Expansion Card enables IBM to offer blade server users increased dual-channel I/O throughput and CPU efficiency, resulting in increased performance and reduced power consumption.

By replacing slow, manual methods with an automated solution, the Server Consolidation and Migration Services can reduce server consolidation and application migration efforts from months to weeks according to IBM.

Bus-Tech, Inc., a supplier of data center connectivity products, has introduced a new library model intended to add mainframe connectivity to distributed systems Virtual Tape Library (VTL) vendors' offerings and provide data centers with a single backup vehicle for both mainframe and distributed system server environments. The Mainframe Data Library (MDL) model 100V is intended to simplify data backup for the enterprise, take advantage of the VTL's deduplication capabilities and reduces the overall cost associated with data protection, the vendor says.

QLogic Corp., a network infrastructure solutions vendor, announced that it has acquired NetXen, Inc., a supplier of a 10Gbit/E products. QLogic will pay approximately $21 million in cash for NetXen, subject to certain closing adjustments. Both companies serve the same customers and address similar markets, QLogic says, and the acquisition provides QLogic with complementary networking products and intellectual property.

EnterpriseDB, an open source database vendor, announced that IBM has licensed its technology to make it easier to deploy applications on DB2 9.7, the upcoming release of IBM's enterprise relational database.
