Software AG has joined the IBM Z and Cloud Modernization Center, a "digital front door" comprised of tools, training, and ecosystem partners to help IBM Z clients accelerate the modernization of their applications, data and processes in an open hybrid cloud architecture. According to the companies, the aim of the collaboration is to remove barriers to mainframe modernization for clients by using APIs to connect mainframe applications to the cloud without altering any code.

IBM has announced the acquisition of SXiQ, an Australian digital transformation services company specializing in cloud applications, cloud platforms and cloud cybersecurity. SXiQ will join IBM Consulting's Hybrid Cloud Services business, helping IBM capitalize on a rapidly growing cloud professional services market which is projected to surpass $200 billion globally by 2024.

Oracle has announced the opening of two new European cloud regions in Milan and Stockholm. Oracle now has 36 regions worldwide with plans to have at least 44 cloud regions by the end of 2022, marking one of the fastest expansions of any major cloud provider.

Hazelcast provides a streaming and memory-first application platform for stateful, data-intensive workloads on-prem, at the edge, or as a fully managed cloud service. The company recently announced version 5.0 of the Hazelcast Platform in which the Hazelcast IMDG and Hazelcast Jet products have been merged into a single product to not only simplify the development of applications using Hazelcast but also put more focus on developing real-time applications that will engage with end users in new ways. When it comes to improving the performance of database systems, there are nearly as many approaches as there are DBA (database administrator) teams. Mature disciplines—from medicine to aviation to accounting—also have mature processes that represent the generally accepted workflows and procedures needed for best results, or, at a minimum, to prevent the worst from happening. However, DBAs do not have an equivalent for the FAA handbooks found in every aircraft cockpit in America—that's a shame because so many of our DBA workflows and processes could be made easier, more reliable, and more predictable with a bit of planning and foresight.
