Currently, the IT industry is the midst of a major transition as it moves from the last generation - the internet generation - to the new generation of cloud and big data, said Andy Mendelsohn, Oracle's EVP of Database Server Technologies, who recently talked with DBTA about database products that Oracle is bringing to market to support customers' cloud initiatives. IBM released its fourth-quarter and annual revenue numbers for 2015, showing soft business overall. However, the company's cloud, analytics, and mainframes continued to surge forward. Total revenue for the year 2015 was $81.7 billion, down 12% from the previous year, and down almost 24% from a peak of $106.9 billion in 2011.

Rackspace has added three key enhancements spanning data storage, security, and DR to the ObjectRocket offering for MongoDB to address requirements in mission-critical enterprise scenarios. The new capabilities were announced in a blog post by Kyle Hunter, product marketing manager for ObjectRocket solutions at Rackspace.
