IBM reported a difficult year for the 12-month period ended December 31, 2013. For the fourth quarter of the 2013 fiscal year, the company reported revenues of $27.7 billion, down 5% from the same time one year ago, and mainframe sales were weak during this time.

With the sale of its x86 server business to Lenovo, IBM intends to focus on system and software innovations that bring value to strategic areas of its business, such as cognitive computing, big data and cloud. LSI Corporation has announced that its Nytro flash accelerator cards have been selected as the PCIe flash acceleration technology for Oracle's Exadata X4. According to the companies, the Nytro DLC technology extends the logical flash storage capacity of Exadata beyond the system's physical flash capacity. This software feature dynamically extends the flash capacity of Exadata X4 systems with the same physical hardware and power requirements for a reduced total cost of ownership.
