Grafana Labs, the company behind open source projects including Grafana and Loki, is recieving $24 million in Series A funding, which will be used to further invest in the open source community and accelerate the creation of an open and composable observability platform. The round was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, with participation from Lead Edge Capital. The company also announced new executive appointments including Douglas Hanna, chief operating officer, Dave Kranowitz, vice president of global sales, and Ryan McKinley, vice president of applications.

Veritas Technologies, a provider of enterprise data protection and software-defined infrastructure, is releasing the Veritas Flex 5150 appliance, a complete data protection solution purpose built for the edge of enterprise networks. The Flex 5150 is the first appliance from Veritas to bring the NetBackup enterprise-class data protection to edge, branch, and remote offices.

A microservices architecture is very conducive to continuous development and deployment iterations. As the DevOps environment becomes more focused on rapid deployment, adaptability and growth, microservices are the perfect tool to build versatile systems that allow for continuous improvement and scaling with little to no down time for the user. By breaking down a large suite of features into discrete functions, where each runs as its own service that is not tied to any specific server or dependencies, developers are able to create a loosely coupled system of independent functionalities. In all, each microservice can do one or a few things very well.

dotData has raised $23 million in Series A funding, bringing the total amount of funding raised to date to $43 million. The Series A financing round was led by JAFCO with participation by Goldman Sachs, which both join existing dotData seed-round investors NEC Corp.

This round was led by NEA, Andreessen Horowitz, the a16z Cultural Leadership Fund, and Green Bay Ventures also participated in the new round. The funding brings Sisu's total capital raised to $66.7M, and coincides with the public launch of Sisu's data analytics platform.
