Oracle's just-released Exalogic Elastic Cloud provides new enhancements to help customers attain greater levels of data center consolidation and efficiency. Compared to the last release, Oracle Exalogic X4-2 provides higher throughput and, coupled with Oracle Exabus technology, delivers near-native response times for virtualized applications, resulting in greater consolidation benefits. In addition, Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud X4-2 hardware, powered by Intel Xeon processors, provides 50% more cores per node, large amounts of memory and significantly increased flash and disk storage capacity.

Oracle has announced the fifth generation database machine, the Oracle Exadata Database Machine X4, which adds enhancements to improve performance and quality of service for OLTP, DBaaS (database as a service), and data warehousing. Tim Shetler, vice president of product management, Oracle, shared his views on the update in an interview. "There is no price change with this generation. It is the same price as before. We are just giving customers more capacity and more performance," said Shetler.

A new rapid-deployment solution from SAP aims to address the issue of big data storage access and analysis which companies are grappling with as they attempt to balance what information needs to be accessible in real time and what can be stored for historical analysis. The SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse (BW) Near-Line Storage rapid-deployment solution facilitates seamless data transfer between the business warehouse and the near-line storage that holds historical data. This, the company says, helps limit a business' burden around housing volumes of big data while also creating an online and accelerated retrieval system with the near-line storage.

Big data software company Talend announced it has raised $40 million in new funding from Bpifrance, Iris Capital and existing investors. The cash infusion will be targeted at investment and development in big data, the company says.

DataStax and Google engineers have collaborated on testing and validation of the scalability, reliability and performance of mission-critical online applications that are built on DataStax Enterprise with Google Compute Engine. Melissa Data has introduced a new Move Update function for Listware for Excel, the company's data enrichment tool that integrates directly into Microsoft Excel. According to Melissa Data, Listware for Excel enables real-time contact data quality in a simple Excel interface making it well suited for anyone using Excel to manage contact data, and providing a data quality option for mailers challenged by the licensing costs or volume mailing requirements of the U.S Post Office's national change-of-address product.
