Entrinsik, Inc., has announced that its Informer self-service reporting and business intelligence software is now listed on SugarCRM'sSugarExchange and can integrate directly with SugarCRM implementations. Through the integration between Entrinsik and SugarCRM, users can log into Sugar and access real-time reporting, data analysis and interactive dashboards. "It allows users to integrate multiple sources of data without even leaving the Sugar instance and without having to set up a separate data store or data cube which they would typically have to do in order to access data from multiple data sources," Sharon Shelton, vice president of marketing at Entrinsik, tells DBTA.

Melissa Data, a provider of contact data quality and direct marketing solutions, has announced Personator, an integrated data quality web service designed to provide identity verification and fraud prevention for e-commerce applications. Personator offers the ability to determine whether associations between different elements, such as name and address, are correct, thereby increasing accuracy by ensuring a valid and correct link between the data and identity of individual customer contacts.

Data management vendor Delphix has released a new version of its database virtualization platform, Delphix 3.0. Featuring new support for Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) and Microsoft SQL Server, the latest version expands the power of virtualization across the enterprise database landscape. Virtual databases powered by Delphix 3.0 have capabilities that cannot be duplicated on physical infrastructure, the company contends. Varonis Systems Inc., a data governance software provider, has released DatAdvantage 5.8, offering customers greater flexibility and management in data governance for unstructured and semi-structured data. Varonis DatAdvantage 5.8 introduces internally developed collectors that can run alongside or instead of Varonis probes running Microsoft SQL. These collectors can collect the information without an SQL server, making implementation easier, improving performance, and reducing overhead. "It is a great investment in our architecture, and it gives you more flexibility about where you can use SQL or not use SQL," David Gibson, vice president of strategy at Varonis, tells 5 Minute Briefing.

Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c Release 2 was recently introduced with capabilities for deploying and managing business applications in an enterprise private cloud, such as Java platform-as-a-service (PaaS), enhanced business application management, and integrated hardware-software management for Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud. According to Oracle, "engineered-together management" is especially important for a consolidation platform such as Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud, where multiple business applications need to run reliably and securely. In addition, as a result of demand from customers leveraging Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c, a new IOUG Management Special Interest Group (SIG) has been created.

AT&T and IBM announced a business agreement to deliver a "network-enabled" cloud service that uses private networks rather than the public Internet. The companies are combining AT&T virtual private networking, new technology from AT&T Labs, and IBM SmartCloud Enterprise+ cloud capabilities to create what they say is a faster and more secure shared cloud service. "As more organizations realize that cloud can be secure, easily managed, and a key part of their business strategy, cloud will quickly evolve as a tool for innovation rather than just for infrastructure," says Erich Clementi, senior vice president for IBM Global Technology Services.

SAP AG announced the availability of the SAP Precision Retailing solution, which is designed to help companies reach consumers at the moment of decision. The enterprise solution delivers personalized offers and suggestions in real time to consumers across multiple channels, including mobile devices, in-store kiosks and websites. Simba Technologies has partnered with Hortonworks, a commercial vendor of Apache Hadoop, to provide ODBC access to Hortonworks Data Platform. The use of Simba's Apache Hive ODBC Driver with SQL Connector is aimed at providing Hortonworks customers with easy access to their data for BI and analytics using the SQL-based application of their choice. Technology performance company Compuware announced two new solutions aimed at reducing complexity in the data center and the cloud. Compuware APM for Mainframe provides transaction management capabilities, intended to help administrators more rapidly resolve performance problems, reduce MIPS costs, postpone hardware upgrades and accelerate time-to-market for new applications. In addition, a second new solution, Outage Analyzer, tracks cloud and third-party web service outages with instant notification of cause and impact. Outage Analyzer is available now as a free service.

Progress Software Corporation announced that it has signed a definitive agreement with Rocket Software for Rocket to acquire the Shadow product. According to the companies, Shadow middleware software is complementary to Rocket Software's existing product portfolio and will offer Rocket customers improvements in total cost of ownership and performance of integration projects that involve mainframe assets.

Database storage solutions vendor Tokutek had the latest version of its flagship product, TokuDB v6.5, on display at the Percona Live 2012 conference in New York City. According to the company, this storage engine extends MySQL's performance and scalability to provide support for applications that must be able to respond in real-time to large volumes of continuously incoming data. TokuDB maintains query performance with no maintenance downtime and without requiring expensive hardware buildout.

Real-time IT management company ManageEngine, a division of ZoHo Corp., debuted key product portfolio enhancements at Oracle OpenWorld 2012. In addition to its flagship network monitoring software (NMS), OpManager, the company has upgraded its network configuration and change management (NCCM) solution, DeviceExpert, and enterprise password management software, Password Manager Pro. "Historically, IT has been more of a batch-oriented organization, where you submit a problem and wait for some resolution but as businesses make technology more ingrained in their overall revenue generation and profit generation functions, you just can't have that. It has got to move with the pace of business, and so a lot of the product announcement and development focus for us has been to deliver more real-time capabilities," Raj Sabhlok, president of ManageEngine, tells 5 Minute Briefing.

During his opening keynote address at Oracle OpenWorld, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison announced the Oracle Exadata X3 Database In-Memory Machine - the latest generation of its Oracle Exadata Database Machines - and a key component of the Oracle Cloud. The Exadata X3 Database In-Memory Machine provides significant performance improvements, implementing a mass memory hierarchy that automatically moves all active data into Flash and RAM memory, while keeping less active data on low-cost disks. Oracle also announced a new Eighth-Rack configuration for the Oracle Exadata X3-2 Database In-Memory Machine, in addition to the Full-Rack, Half-Rack, and Quarter-Rack, to bring the benefits of Exadata to a more affordable level for a broader set of use cases such as smaller workloads, testing, development and disaster recovery systems.

Featuring a redesigned in-memory engine, users across the enterprise will be able to visualize and interact with enormous amounts of data. CA Technologies announced a global distribution agreement with Nastel Technologies, a middleware infrastructure monitoring and management company, which adds Nastel's AutoPilot for middleware management to CA's cross-platform offerings. CA will resell and distribute Nastel's AutoPilot for middleware, covering IBM WebSphere MQ, Message Broker, DataPower and TIBCO. The AutoPilot solution complements the performance management solutions that CA offers by extending the management and monitoring capabilities deeper in the middleware infrastructure.

There is still great demand for terminal emulation, as a new release from Cybele Software, Inc. shows. The vendor released z/Scope Anywhere 7.0, a remote-computing solution for users of IBM mainframes, AS/400, and UNIX systems. Cybele says it designed z/Scope Anywhere 7.0 as a pure HTML5/JavaScript client. There is no ActiveX or Java applet to install, making z/Scope Anywhere "100% native-firewall friendly."

Silver Peak Systems has announced Silver Peak Velocity, a combination of products, pricing and packaging that aims to allow storage administrators to accelerate their offsite replication workloads. SilverPeak Velocity is available for NetApp SnapMirror deployments, providing what the company says is on-average 20x faster offsite replication, and will be available for replication solutions from Dell, EMC, and Hitachi Data Systems in the coming months.

SAP has announced the first SAP Sales and Distribution (SD) standard application benchmark result ever for SAP Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE). Running on the HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8 server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.2, together with enhancement package 5 for the SAP ERP 6.0 application, SAP Sybase ASE achieved a new number-one two-processor Linux result on the two-tier SAP SD standard application benchmark.

Bradmark Technologies, Inc., an established provider of database tools for enterprise monitoring and administration, has announced the expansion of its seven-year global reseller agreement with Sybase, an SAP company, through the execution of an addendum granting Bradmark the right to sell SAP Sybase database products in North America. The opportunities and challenges presented by big data are examined in a new survey of 298 data managers and professionals who are part of the Independent Oracle Users Group. The survey was underwritten by Oracle Corporation and conducted by Unisphere Research, a division of Information Today, Inc. According to this new survey, more than one out of 10 data managers now have in excess of a petabyte of data within their organizations, and a majority of respondents report their levels of unstructured data are growing. Fewer than one out of five respondents feel their IT infrastructure will be ready to handle this incoming surge of data. Protecting data overall is important, but unstructured data gets low priority at this time.
