Vision Solutions, Inc., a provider of protection and recovery solutions, has announced the release of an automated tool that enables real-time data sharing between disparate databases. Double-Take Share version 5.1 provides enhanced support for Microsoft SQL Server, including support for Microsoft SQL Server 2012, increased performance when running in IBM i and Teradata environments, and support for additional versions of z/OS.

Micro Focus, a provider of enterprise application modernization, released a solution designed to accelerate IBM mainframe application delivery. Enterprise Developer for IBM zEnterprise is intended to help customers modernizing applications for deployment on the mainframe or any of the IBM zEnterprise environments. The product uses either the Microsoft Visual Studio or Eclipse-based Integrated Developer Environment with mainframe integration, and also includes tools to support development and unit testing on Linux for System z, AIX and x86 environments.

IBM is investing $1 billion in research and development to design, create and integrate new Flash solutions into its expanding portfolio of servers, storage systems and middleware. Flash, a highly efficient re-writable memory, can speed the response times of information gathering in servers and storage systems from milliseconds to microseconds, the company says. Because it contains no moving parts, the technology is also more reliable, durable and more energy efficient than spinning hard drives.

Fujitsu and Oracle jointly announced they are shipping a series of Fujitsu M10 servers, based on the 16-core SPARC64 X processor. MarkLogic Corporation, the provider of an enterprise NoSQL database platform, announced that it has closed a $25 million round of growth capital led by Sequoia Capital and Tenaya Capital, with participation from Northgate Capital. MarkLogic CEO Gary Bloom also made a personal investment in this financing round. With capital to fuel sales and marketing, MarkLogic seeks to go after the broader market of enterprise class customers while also targeting several key areas for feature expansion, Bloom told DBTA.

Oracle announced the availability of the Oracle Big Data Appliance X3-2 Starter Rack and Oracle Big Data Appliance X3-2 In-Rack Expansion. The new Oracle Big Data Appliance X3-2 Starter Rack is intended to help customers jump start their first big data projects and the new Oracle Big Data Appliance X3-2 In-Rack Expansion is aimed at helping them cost-effectively scale the system as their data grows. In addition, the Oracle Big Data Appliance X3-2 (Full Rack configuration) is now available through Oracle Infrastructure as a Service.

Oracle showcased the Oracle Database Appliance X3-2 in a webcast last week. The new version provides up to twice the performance and supports over four times the storage of the original Oracle Database Appliance, and allows customers to expand their data volumes instantly by connecting a Storage Expansion Shelf with no administration required. The Oracle Database Appliance X3-2 also supports virtualization, said Oracle president Mark Hurd during the webcast. "This means even more value for mid-size companies, departments and branches, and also means great things for our partners."

The Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN) announced new enablement and specialization resources for the SPARC T5 and M5 servers, which recently joined the SPARC T4 servers to complete Oracle's SPARC family, spanning entry-level, midrange and high-end. The T5-8 running applications is faster than the largest T4 computer Oracle ever made and the M5-32 is 10 times faster than the M9000, said Oracle CEO Larry Ellison during a live webcast to unveil the new servers.

Data visualization and analysis vendor Tableau Software has released version 8.0 of its analytics and visualization platform, with more than 90 news features to help organizations answer deeper questions about their data and integrate it across their organization. Web and mobile authoring enables drag and drop analytics in browsers and tablets, new data connections allow customers to interactively analyze large amounts of cloud data, and additional visualization types foster new ways to communicate with data. In addition, new APIs allow authors to integrate custom data, visualizations and dashboards into their applications and portals faster.

Emulex acquired control of Endace, and beneficial ownership of 89% of the shares of Endace, on February 26, 2013. It has now completed the acquisition of beneficial ownership of 99.9% of the shares of Endace, and the process for the compulsory acquisition of the remaining Endace shares by Emulex pursuant to the New Zealand Takeovers Code has commenced.

Revelation Software plans to include support for OpenID authentication as part of OpenInsight for Web (O4W), a web development toolkit that makes it possible for OpenInsight developers with limited or no HTML, XML or JavaScript experience to develop feature-rich web pages. OpenID allows people to use an existing account to sign in to multiple websites without the need to create new passwords. The new capability will be included in O4W as part of the OpenInsight 10.0 release, which is currently under development, Robert Catalano, director of sales at Revelation, tells DBTA.
