Syncsort has announced new capabilities in MIMIX, a product line in its portfolio of high availability (HA) and disaster recovery software for IBM i. MIMIX addresses key IT challenges for assuring data and application availability. According to Syncsort, the new MIMIX release delivers faster replication to protect organizations' growing volumes of data and transactions, a streamlined GUI dashboard with visibility into key HA metrics for simplified management, and new features that help ensure applications can be switched to a recovery server at a moment's notice.

Nutanix, provider of enterprise cloud computing, has released Nutanix Flow, a software-defined networking (SDN) security solution built for the multi-cloud era. Flow provides application-centric security to protect against internal and external threats not detected by traditional perimeter-oriented security products. Flow capabilities are integrated into Nutanix's Acropolis software and will also be enhanced with real-time application visibility and discovery technology from the company's recent acquisition of Netsil.

Enterprise NoSQL database provider MarkLogic has announced the release of MarkLogic 9.0-5. MarkLogic 9.0-5 is part of MarkLogic's continuing mission to make use of MarkLogic easier to use and more automatic, said David Gorbet, SVP of engineering, MarkLogic. Beyond that, he said, the new enhancements can be divided into two main themes, one of which is "smart database technology," with the database providing the ability to understand more about the context of a company's data so it can govern and manage it better.

With the E.U.'s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) set to go into effect in less than 2 weeks, new research shows U.S. companies are still unprepared.  The research garnered responses from U.S. companies with annual revenue greater than $10 million regarding their understanding of and preparedness for GDPR, uncovering two areas where companies are significantly exposed to legal risk by these new regulations. Penalties go into effect on May 25, 2018, and non-compliant organizations risk triggering fines up to 20 euros million or 4% of global revenue, whichever is higher.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has introduced Amazon Aurora Backtrack, a new feature that provides an "undo option" for a production database. Backtrack can be enabled by customers for newly-launched Aurora database clusters by specifying how far back in time they want to rewind, and then using the database as usual. This option applies to newly created MySQL-compatible Aurora database clusters and to MySQL-compatible clusters that have been restored from a backup.

Sentenai, an emerging data science technology company, has raised $2 million in seed funding to further its product and customer development initiatives. This marks one of the first investments for One Way Ventures, a new, Boston-based fund founded by Semyon Dukach and Eveline Buchatskiy.
