Rocket Software has announced the availability of System Builder Extensible Architecture (SB/XA) which allows users to rapidly build robust business solutions. By applying SB/XA Designer default styles, users indicate mandatory fields and where intuitive help is available. In addition, Outlook-style menus can be included to create an environment that feels familiar to users. Data can be reported out to Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word or XML formats, giving users access to their data in their preferred business application.

Temenos, a provider of software to the financial services industry, has announced that Cairo Amman Bank, a full service bank with 106 branches in Jordan and Palestine, has gone live with T24, Temenos' core banking system based on jBASE technology. Oracle expanded its partnerships with key cloud vendors. Microsoft Corp. and Oracle Corp. have formed a partnership that will enable customers to run Oracle software on Windows Server Hyper-V and in Windows Azure, Microsoft's cloud platform. Customers will be able to deploy Oracle software — including Java, Oracle Database and Oracle WebLogic Server — on Windows Server Hyper-V or in Windows Azure and receive full support from Oracle. In addition, Salesforce.com and Oracle also announced a comprehensive nine-year partnership encompassing all three tiers of cloud computing: applications, platform and infrastructure.

Cisco has announced its intent to acquire Composite Software, a privately held company specializing in data virtualization software and services. Headquartered in San Mateo, Calif., Composite provides data virtualization software that enables a simplified and optimized logical view of data from multiple sources across the network, giving applications and business users the ability to access and query all types of data as if it is in a single place. According to Cisco, the acquisition of Composite will expand its Smart Services portfolio and extend its services platform by optimizing data and connecting to the infrastructure layer, enhancing programmability and use of APIs for Cisco customers.

Software AG has agreed to acquire Apama, a platform for complex event processing (CEP) and CEP-powered solutions, from Progress Software. Apama CEP allows organizations to correlate and analyze business activities across multiple data streams in real-time and take immediate action in response. Composite Software has released the Composite Data Virtualization Platform 6.2 SP3. Dell and Oracle have announced an expanded worldwide alliance, through which the two companies will introduce a new x86 infrastructure offering that combines Dell's hardware with Oracle's software. As part of the agreement, Oracle has named Dell a preferred x86 partner, and Dell has named Oracle a preferred enterprise infrastructure partner, including Oracle Linux. The expanded partnership represents an extension of Oracle's engineered systems strategy, said Oracle president Mark Hurd.

Expanding its position in the cloud computing market segment, IBM announced plans to acquire SoftLayer Technologies, Inc., a privately held cloud computing infrastructure provider headquartered in Dallas, Texas. IBM also announced the formation of a new Cloud Services division. Following the close of the acquisition of SoftLayer, which is expected in 3Q 2013, the new division will combine SoftLayer with IBM SmartCloud into a global platform.

SunGard Availability Services, a provider of information availability and disaster recovery services, has introduced support for virtualized platforms for its SunGard Managed Oracle Services.
