IBM has announced that the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform is generally available for IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE. According to IBM, the availability of OpenShift for Z and LinuxONE is a major milestone for both hybrid multi-cloud and for enterprise computing. OpenShift supports cloud-native applications being built once and deployed anywhere—and now extends this to on-premise enterprise servers such as IBM Z and LinuxONE. The offering is the result of the collaboration between the IBM and Red Hat development teams and discussions with early adopter clients.

New research on the strategic importance of COBOL indicates that 70% of enterprises favor modernization as an approach for implementing strategic change compared to the replacing/retiring of key COBOL applications as it continues to offer a low-risk, and effective means of transforming IT to support digital business initiatives. Protecting endpoints and preventing the spread of infected systems is a critical concern for organizations of all sizes, according to research revealing that attackers can move off of an initially compromised system in 4.5 hours, on average. Further, new research shows that the average dwell time—the time it takes to detect attackers operating within an enterprise network—increased an average of 10 days in 2019, from 85 to 95 days, highlighting the escalating requirement to secure endpoints and prevent an adversary from establishing a foothold.
