Curl, Inc., the developer of the Curl Rich Internet Application (RIA) Platform, has announced the release of Curl Data Kit Data Services (CDK-DS). CDK-DS is ideal for enterprise developers who are building new applications that require a fast, scalable and reliable data connection to existing server infrastructure, according to the vendor. This includes those developers using Adobe Flex or Flash who have discovered that they need a more robust client side technology, as well as developers who are upgrading an existing Curl application and require a more powerful and scalable data connectivity solution.

Pentaho Corporation, the commercial open source alternative for business intelligence (BI), has announced Pentaho BI Suite Version 3, aimed at making it cost effective for businesses to deploy easy-to-use, robust BI capabilities to users throughout the organization. Pentaho BI Suite Version 3 allows business users to easily create interactive dashboards-including Adobe Flash-based visualizations-without training. Also, based on existing customer successes and growing customer demand, Pentaho is introducing a Cloud Computing Edition, packaged for deployment on the Amazon EC2 Cloud, providing companies with another way to drive down the cost of bringing BI into their organizations.

Vision Solutions, a high availability and disaster recovery solutions provider, has announced the availability of Vision PowerPacks, new offerings that combine Vision Solutions software with IBM technologies. Continuity Software, a provider of disaster recovery (DR) and high availability (HA) management solutions, unveiled upgraded software that includes enhancements in the areas of cluster system support, root cause analysis, and high availability (HA) gap detection and reporting. RecoverGuard version 4.0, the vendor says, now also offers end-to-end solution for ensuring business continuity across Unix and other distributed platforms, by providing them with a tool by which they can validate and assure both restore point objective (RPO) and restore time objective (RTO).

Citrix Systems, an application delivery infrastructure vendor, unveiled a set of improvements to its application delivery product line, Citrix XenApp, designed to simplify the process of delivering Windows applications as an on-demand service. The enhancements boost XenApp's capabilities in capacity planning, server provisioning and application management, the vendor says.

Oracle is offering a new, smaller version of the HP Oracle Database Machine, according to a post last week on the company's Data Warehouse Insider blog. This follows the initial introduction of the HP Oracle Database Machine, which was unveiled by CEO Larry Ellison at Oracle OpenWorld in September 2008. More than three years in development, Ellison called the offering "the world's fastest database machine."

Greenplum, a leading provider of database software for the next generation of data warehousing and analytics, has announced new technology designed to accelerate data loading for companies dealing with exponential data growth. Greenplum's new "MPP Scatter/Gather Streaming" (SG Streaming) technology eliminates the bottlenecks associated with other approaches to data loading, enabling high-speed flows of data into the Greenplum Database for large-scale analytics and data warehousing. According to Greenplum, some of its customers are achieving production loading speeds of over four terabytes per hour with negligible impact on concurrent database operations. The SG Streaming technology is available immediately and is a standard feature of the Greenplum Database.

Oracle has announced general availability of the latest release of Oracle Application Express, a free, rapid Web application development tool for Oracle Databases. Release 3.2 of Oracle Application Express introduces the Oracle Forms Conversion, a significant new feature to help developers convert Oracle Forms-based applications into HTML applications running within an Oracle Database. Application Express Release 3.2 also introduces many security enhancements.

Quest Software recently made a joint announcement with Microsoft, indicating that it will offer an Oracle Database Schema Provider for the upcoming release of Microsoft Visual Studio Team System (VSTS) 2010. Quest's new tool provides Oracle support for VSTS, enabling Oracle developers to fully participate with other VSTS team members throughout the entire application lifecycle. Previous to this, Oracle professionals could not benefit from the improvements in communication and workflow that VSTS offers. Oracle development in VSTS was limited, involved time-consuming manual processes, and did not support the system's new offline database development and design paradigm. With Quest's new tool, VSTS can now support both Oracle and SQL Server databases.
