Tableau Software, a provider of business intelligence software, and Cloudera Inc., a provider of Apache Hadoop-based data management software and services, have announced integration between the two companies that provides enterprises with capabilities to more easily extract business insights from their big data without needing the specific technical skills typically required to operate Hadoop. Tableau has developed a Certified Cloudera Connector that is licensed to work with Cloudera's Distribution Including Apache Hadoop (CDH). The new connector is part of the Tableau 7.0 release.

Revelation Software has announced new features as well as patches and enhancements that will be added in OpenInsight (OI) 9.3.1. The new release will include O4W 1.3 as well as the OI connector for OpenQM from LadyBridge Systems. In addition, Revelation has announced that its next user conference will be held in Nashville, Tenn., in April 2013.

Rocket U2 has announced the availability of new offerings, including the U2 DBTools package, U2 RESTful Web Services, and wIntegrate v. 6.3. In addition, the dates have been finalized for U2 University, with the U.S. event taking place in downtown Denver May 8 to May 10, followed by the U.K. event from June 26 to 28, and the Australia event scheduled for August 14 to 16.

BMMsoft Corporation, a provider of real-time analytic software that automates the storing, integration, management and analysis of big data, has announced the availability of high-speed EDMT 9 for large enterprises, which it says can be deployed instantly and without intensive programming needed by other big data systems. The combination of EDMT 9, Sybase IQ 15.4 and HP Proliant DL 980 Server and cloud, on-premise or hybrid deployment offers the big data functionality to large enterprises that need quick deployment and can't spend time on long development projects, according to Paul Krneta, CTO of BMMsoft.

SAP AG has announced two new offerings that will offer the benefits of the SAP HANA platform to small businesses and midsize enterprises (SMEs). With analytics powered by SAP HANA for the SAP Business One application and SAP HANA, Edge edition, SMEs will be able to leverage in-memory technology from SAP. The new offerings from SAP aim to provide SMEs with real-time access to information tailored to their individual requirements.

EnterpriseDB, designer of enterprise PostgreSQL and Oracle compatibility products and services, has released the latest version of its Advanced Server platform, Postgres Plus 9.1. The latest update offers improvements in read performance and write scalability, as well as greater flexibility and reliability due to its transaction-level control over synchronous replication, an industry first. Postgres Plus Advanced Server 9.1 is also more secure than previous versions due to the addition of Virtual Private Database, and has expanded its Oracle-compatible features.

Users include hundreds of global organizations in sectors including banking, insurance, government and healthcare.

HP announced a new offering that enables its partners to provide a branded solution to customers for application performance testing in the cloud. HP's LoadRunner-in-the-Cloud offering is intended to provide an on-demand service model of the cloud to help partner vendors deliver consumption-based performance testing of Web 2.0, AJAX, mobile and other applications to customers. The new offering complements HP's own solutions for performance validation, which span on-premise, software as a service and managed services.

Birst Inc., a provider of business analytics solutions, has announced support for Apache Hadoop, combining the scale of Hadoop data sets with Birst's agile multi-dimensional database. "Business analytics is changing as the volume of data from online web interactions skyrockets and customers increasingly want to browse, query or merge transactional data with interaction data," says Rick Spickelmier, Birst CTO. Kalido, a provider of agile information management software, unveiled the latest release of the Kalido Information Engine, which helps organizations decrease the time for data mart migrations and consolidations. With this new release, customers will be able to import existing logical and physical models and taxonomies to build a more agile data warehouse. Pentaho Corporation is making the big data capabilities of its new Pentaho Kettle 4.3 release freely available under open source, and has moved the entire Pentaho Kettle project to the Apache License Version 2.0. Pentaho says that because Apache is the license under which Hadoop and several of the leading NoSQL databases are published, this move will help to further accelerate the adoption of Pentaho Kettle by developers, analysts and data scientists as a tool for big data management and analytics.

Splunk Inc. has released the latest version of its flagship software, Splunk Enterprise 4.3, which extracts and harnesses customers' machine data and translates it into real-time operational intelligence. One of the cornerstones of Splunk's design has been its ease of use, and the latest release continues that emphasis, according to the company. Splunk 4.3 supports non-IT and business users by making it, "a lot simpler to organize a dashboard or visualization according to how you want to see it yourself without having to code anything or speak to the IT person," Sanjay Mehta, senior director of product marketing at Splunk, tells 5 Minute Briefing. "We don't require that you're a data scientist or advanced statistician to use Splunk."
