The Pythian Group, Inc., a provider of remote database infrastructure services, has announced it has achieved four specializations under the OPN (Oracle PartnerNetwork) Specialized Program. Already a Platinum member of the OPN, Pythian has met a series of demanding technical and business requirements to earn the specializations in Oracle Database 11g, Real Application Clusters (RAC), Database Performance Tuning, and Oracle Linux. The specialized status serves as an indicator to both Oracle customers and to the Oracle team that Pythian is "a preferred go-to partner that they can engage" when facing complex problems.

Pentaho Corporation, a provider of open source business intelligence (BI) and data integration software, has announced plans to enable Pentaho Data Integration for Hadoop to easily integrate with Hadoop data stored in Amazon Elastic MapReduce. As a result, Amazon Web Services LLC (AWS) customers can leverage Pentaho's ETL capabilities to deploy a hybrid data model to easily move data between Amazon Elastic MapReduce and databases, data warehouses and other cloud based and on-premise data stores.

Prowess, a provider of IT management solutions and services, announced the release of SmartMigrate - a free, wizard-based solution that enables migrations from Windows XP to Windows 7. The latest version of IBM Informix, codenamed "Panther," became generally available today. According to Martin Wildberger, vice president, World Wide Development, IBM, the new IBM Informix 11.7 software version helps clients and IBM partners streamline their business processes and access critical data faster to make smarter business decisions. Actuate Corporation, developers of the open source BIRT business intelligence environment, announced ActuateOne, a product suite for rapidly developing and deploying custom BI applications and information applications. Jaspersoft, a provider of business intelligence software, has introduced JasperReports Server Professional, a centrally-managed and secure reporting server for scheduling and distributing interactive reports. According to Jaspersoft the new solution will enable customers to create, deliver and embed interactive reports in a variety of formats for anyone in their organization, for as much as 80% less than prices charged by the traditional BI providers.

Predixion Software announced a relatively low-cost, self-service in the cloud predictive analytics solution that integrates with Microsoft's business intelligence platform. The new release, Predixion Insight, is intended to enable organizations to use and analyze large amounts of data to make actionable decisions, all within the familiar environment of Microsoft Excel, PowerPivot and SharePoint. Oracle introduced the Oracle Exadata Database Machine X2-8 at Oracle OpenWorld. The new configuration extends the Oracle Exadata Database Machine product family with a high-capacity system for large OLTP, data warehousing and consolidated workloads. "The data volumes now are huge, and they are going to keep getting bigger and as they grow rapidly, you will need more and more power," said Oracle president Mark Hurd, commenting on the release during a keynote at the Oracle conference.

IBM announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire BLADE Network Technologies (BLADE), a privately held company based in Santa Clara, CA. BLADE specializes in software and devices that route data and transactions to and from servers. The acquisition is anticipated to close in the fourth quarter of 2010, subject to the satisfaction of customary closing conditions and applicable regulatory reviews. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Progress Software Corporation has released two new database drivers intended to expand critical connectivity features to more databases and formats.
