Data analytics vendor Teradata and information management software provider Kalido have introduced a new joint solution that they say will allow customers to build or expand a data warehouse in 90 days or less, providing deeper analytics to users for improved business decision-making. This solution combines the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance with the Kalido Information Engine, providing customers with a streamlined data consolidation tool that aggregates disparate data into a single unified platform.

Kapow Software, a provider of social media, cloud, and big data solutions, has announced a strategic partnership with Informatica Corporation to deliver Informatica PowerExchange for Kapow Katalyst. This solution harnesses the power of the web, cloud applications and social media, allowing IT and line-of-business users alike to access and extract relevant information from disparate data sources in real time. The solution will be integrated into Informatica 9.5, which is scheduled to be released at the end of June.

Application Security, Inc. (AppSecInc), a provider of enterprise database security solutions, plans to give away up to $1 million of its database security software as part of an effort to help organizations defend against threat of data breaches. AppSecInc says that companies that take advantage of the offer will receive a free 1-year license of its database security scanning and assessment tool, AppDetectivePro, which retails for $2,000 per database instance.

Objectivity, a provider of object and graph databases, has formed new partnership deals and is also launching a program, now in beta, enabling partners, VARs, and integrators to get trained on utilizing InfiniteGraph and Objectivity/DB as part of their toolsets. According Objectivity, what separates its technology from other vendors is its ability to act as a federated connection store for disparate databases of all kinds from NoSQL to RDBMS. "We are seen as a complementary strategy to the Oracle red stack or the IBM blue stack which traditionally have relational databases and relational data stacks. "We had over 150 people attend the keynote session and business unit overviews before splitting into the three separate technical tracts and two hands-on lab sessions held simultaneously. Despite IT industry talk about the need for real-time data, a new survey of more than 330 data managers and professionals who are subscribers to Database Trends and Applications reveals that access to current data to support decision making is not actually possible for many companies. At least half of companies represented in the survey indicate that relevant data still takes 24 hours or longer to reach decision makers.

Sharon Shelton, vice president of marketing at Entrinsik, showcases Hawaii Human Resources (HiHR), a company using HRPyramid and Entrinsik Informer to help provide customized HR solutions to nearly 250 clients, in a new blog post this month on the Entrinsik website. Prior to purchasing Informer, HIHR was limited to the stock reports and unable to extract the specific data needed for internal and external reporting purposes, Shelton explains. But, since deploying Informer, HiHR has created almost 200 reports, including basic census, 401K reporting, and code file listings, and the company also makes heavy use of more advanced Informer functionality, such as Live Excel.

Plans are underway for an event specifically focused on Sybase PowerBuilder and tools that will be separate from TechEd but held at the same time and location, according to Christine Weber, marketing manager, Events, at Sybase, an SAP company. There will also be close to 100 hours of sessions specifically focused on Sybase database and analytics products at SAP TechEd 2012, Weber tells 5 Minute Briefing. "It is a good portion and it is focused on the traditional kind of content that we have always done with Sybase." Sybase-specific content will include tips and tricks on how to use existing products, as well as previews of what's ahead in new product releases. Now that the call for papers has closed, Sybase is going through its approval process for the presentations. Well over 200 presentations were submitted - "a good problem to have," Weber notes.

Versant Corporation has announced the availability of version 0.9 of its Versant Java Persistence API (JPA), allowing organizations to leverage the benefits of an enterprise-grade NoSQL solution via the Java industry-standard database programming interface. By using the Versant JPA to lower the barriers to NoSQL adoption, Versant says, enterprises can tackle volume, variety, and velocity challenges presented by big data management, and derive value from gaining more insights into information models faster and more easily. Versant JPA version 0.9 represents the first feature complete version of the API binding since the release of a Technology Preview in December 2011.

Storage memory platform vendor Fusion-io has announced that NoSQL database provider Couchbase is integrating to run Couchbase Server natively on ioMemory through Fusion-io's software development kit. Software AG has launched Data Masking for Adabas, a solution created to enable Adabas customers to design and test applications using actual production data that has been altered to ensure the privacy and security of the data itself. IBM and Red Hat, Inc. announced that Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 with the KVM hypervisor on IBM Systems has been awarded Common Criteria Certification at Evaluation Assurance Level 4+ (EAL4+). The Common Criteria is an internationally recognized set of standards used by the federal government and other organizations to assess the security and assurance of technology products. This security certification is the first of its kind for an open source virtualization solution.

Red Gate has announced that its SQL Server development tools now support SQL Server on Amazon RDS, the latest cloud-based database offering from Amazon. In addition, the company says, its SQL Developer Bundle also supports Amazon RDS, enabling users to continue to compare, manage, and deploy their schemas and data with their regular tools, even when they are moving between RDS and other SQL Server instances.

Google has announced that Google BigQuery, a web service that lets users do interactive analysis of massive data sets, is now available to the public. Billed as enabling customers to "analyze terabytes of data with just a click of a button," the company says the data is secured, replicated across data centers, and can be easily exported.
