Crosscheck Networks, Inc., a provider of web services testing, simulation and security, announced the latest release of SOAPSonar (version 5.0), designed to enable enterprises to test functional and performance characteristics of unlimited-sized Web services attachments via streaming of structured and unstructured data based on industry standards such as MTOM and MIME. Crosscheck says this is the first product of its kind with this capability.

Aster Data, a provider of data warehousing solutions for "big data" applications, yesterday announced Aster Data Version 4.0, which the company describes as the industry's first "Massively Parallel Data-Application Server." Aster Data 4.0 allows companies to embed applications inside Aster Data's MPP (massively parallel processing) data warehouse, so businesses can now store, analyze and speed processing of terabytes to petabytes of data. The ability to push applications down into the MPP database also opens a new opportunity for companies to deliver new interactive, big data applications.

IBM recently announced new business analytics offerings designed to help clients better manage and control their unstructured and structured data in a unified manner, while providing valuable insight into their content across the enterprise. The volume of unstructured data found on websites and social networking sites, in digital files, portals, databases and customer comments, is increasing exponentially. Typically, organizations manage this unstructured information separately from their structured data found in applications and databases. Novell announced the latest release of its data center workload profiling, analysis and planning tool. The product, PlateSpin Recon 3.7, combines consolidation planning with capacity management to give customers an ongoing view of their physical and virtual infrastructure. With this latest version, Novell says it has expanded PlateSpin Recon's resource analysis to include granular detail on current, historical, and expected future consumption of local and remote storage resources.

Sybase, Inc. last week reported financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2009. "The team continued to execute very well and enabled us to deliver our best-ever third quarter results in the company history," John Chen, chairman, CEO and president of Sybase, said during an earnings call announcing the results. The company achieved third quarter records in total revenue, operating income, operating margin, net income, EPS, and cash flow from operations.

Talend, an open source data integration software company, recently announced a significant upgrade to the Talend Integration Suite and to Talend Open Studio. Talend Open Studio is the free, open source ETL software platform that Talend offers under a GPL license. It provides business modeling of the data integration process, graphical development, metadata management, and a wide array of data connectors. Talend Integration Suite is the commercial version of Open Studio that Talend sells as an annual subscription license, and that extends Talend Open Studio with technical support and features to facilitate the work of large teams and enterprise-scale deployments. It is offered as Team, Professional, or Enterprise editions, with the Enterprise edition providing for grid management and optional data quality capabilities.

Melissa Data, a provider of data quality and address management solutions, has announced a new free add-on to the company's Address Object address verification API and MAILERS+4 postal automation software. The new add-on, called AddressPlus, will analyze residential address records that are identified during ZIP+4 encoding and will append or correct those records with the right apartment number, if available.

Endeca Technologies, Inc., a search applications software company, announced that it will OEM PowerCenter and PowerExchange from Informatica Corporation, and that it has expanded its relationship with SAP Business Objects. IBM is introducing new software for managing data centers, which, according to the company, has the potential to cut the cost of operations while speeding the deployment of new applications from weeks to minutes. IBM's VMControl is intended to help companies that have turned to virtualization to reduce infrastructure costs, but have actually wound up with new challenges as they try to manage enterprises made up of disparate platforms, each with their own virtualization technology.

IBM announced updated software designed to help companies manage the costs brought on by the proliferation of IT assets such as mobile devices, laptops, printers, switches, sensors and billions of interconnected devices. IBM's IT Asset Management software enables business users to track and manage IT assets to help companies discover and eliminate overlapping and unnecessary IT costs. It also helps mitigate legal and financial risks by supporting regulatory and compliance requirements such as Sarbanes-Oxley. The software also helps control the complexity of software licensing, and increased pace of compliance audits, IBM says.

Appian, a provider of business process management technology, and MEGA, a provider of business process analysis (BPA) and enterprise architecture solutions, have teamed up to introduce Appian Process Architect by MEGA. The new solution enables organizations to use the methodology of the MEGA Suite for process analysis and pass the results directly into the Appian Business Process Management Suite and the software-as-a-service-delivered Appian Anywhere platforms for execution and direct management of daily operations. The new integration provides organizations with an end to end business process management and improvement solution.

At the recent Oracle OpenWorld event, Oracle announced a series of new enhancements to its Java middleware stack, which incorporates application server and Java tools from last year's BEA acquisition. Dubbed the Oracle Fusion Middleware Application Grid, the offerings are intended to enable faster development and deployments within the Java framework. At the core of Oracle's offerings is WebLogic application server, acquired from BEA, which integrates some functionality of the now discontinued Oracle Application Server. "The foundation of our middleware stack is to enable greater efficiency," Mike Pietch, senior director of product marketing, said in a press conference.

FortiDB is a broad solution designed to secure databases and applications for both virtualized and non-virtualized environments. The product performs vulnerability assessments (along with providing remediation advice), database activity monitoring, data loss prevention, automation of auditing and compliance, and change control to keep track of changes related to database structures and end users. BMC Software announced today that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire privately-held Tideway Systems Limited, a provider of IT discovery solutions. The acquisition is intended to enhance BMC's Business Service Management (BSM) platform and help organizations minimize the risks associated with business-critical initiatives such as data center consolidation, virtualization and compliance.
