LogLogic, a provider of security and log management solutions, has introduced what it calls the next generation of its core open log management technology. The new line of appliances is supplied on faster, more resilient hardware, the vendor says, to deliver increases in log message processing, log message storage, connectivity and resiliency.

Terracotta, a provider of Java application scalability solutions, and Eucalyptus Systems, creators of an open source private cloud platform, announced a partnership to provide enterprises with an open source solution for achieving scalability and greater performance in private cloud environments. Under the agreement, the two companies will provide tighter integration between Terracotta technology and Eucalyptus software as well as engage in joint sales and marketing activities.

CA announced a definitive agreement to acquire privately-held 3Tera, Inc., a provider of cloud computing solutions. 3Tera's AppLogic offers an approach for building cloud services and deploying complex enterprise-class applications to public and private clouds using an intuitive graphical user interface (GUI). Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Visara International announced a channel attached gateway communications platform that provides a robust alternative to Cisco Routers with Channel Interface Processors (CIPs), IBM 3172 and 2216 gateways. The CNA-8000 Channel Network Appliance can be configured to provide gateway functions for TN3270 clients, SNA PU2 traffic, and TCP/IP traffic. The CNA-8000 host connectivity is provided through single or dual ESCON interfaces.

Sentrigo, Inc., a provider of database security software, has announced Repscan version 3.0, a major new release of its database vulnerability assessment and security scanning software. Version 3.0 incorporates new and improved features that allow users to more easily navigate, identify and interpret critical data within an enterprise. Among new product features is a graphical user interface, which has been redesigned to allow even security experts with limited database knowledge to run and interpret results. Sybase, Inc. recently reported financial results for the fourth quarter and full year ended December 31, 2009. "2009 was obviously a great year of major accomplishment for Sybase," stated John Chen, chairman, CEO and president, during the Q4 earnings call. "We are very pleased that we delivered consistent financial performance throughout the year," which culminated in "the best quarter of the company history in Q4 and a third consecutive year of record revenue, earnings, as well as cash flow." For the full year, he noted, revenue came in at $1.17 billion, the highest ever, and above the company's outlook as it entered into 2009, 12 months ago.

The product will be available as a commercially supported solution, as well as community download. InfiniDB Enterprise 1.0 and Community Editions are MySQL-based data warehouse databases targeted at users requiring cost-effective analytic database for BI and reporting applications. Unisys last week announced improved earnings and cash flow for the fourth quarter and full year of 2009. "We came into 2009 with a clear plan and goal to turn around the business, achieve profitability and generate free cash flow," Ed Coleman, Unisys Chairman and CEO, said during the fourth quarter and full-year 2009 earnings call. "The economic environment over the past year made it more critical that we move quickly and with urgency to execute on our business priorities, reduce costs and strengthen our balance sheet. As you can see in our results, our people rose to the challenge. Despite lower revenue in 2009, as we narrowed our focus and worked through the downturn, we reported three consecutive quarters of significantly improved profitability and cash flow."
