SolarWinds, a provider of hybrid IT infrastructure management platforms, is adding support for MySQL databases to SolarWinds Database Performance Analyzer (DPA) 10.0. "DPA allows you to quickly pinpoint what is slowing down your database and applications and you can find problems that are usually very hard to find within your database," said Gerardo Dada, vice president of product marketing at SolarWinds.

Oracle has expanded its flash storage portfolio with the announcement of an all-flash model of its Oracle FS1 Flash Storage System. Designed to handle concurrent mixed workloads, such as OLTP and high-speed data backup, in enterprise SAN environments as well as in private or public clouds, the system delivers up to 64 all-flash domains, and enables secure data isolation in multitenant cloud environments.

Syncsort, a provider of specialized solutions for big data, is making a major open source contribution to the IBM z Systems mainframe with a connector for Apache Spark. Syncsort's mainframe connector conforms to Spark's Data Sources API specification, and because of Spark's ability operate on data in memory, the connector will allow queries to access mainframe data without offloading the data first.

SGI, a provider of high performance solutions for compute, data analytics and data management, announced that its SGI UV 300H is now certified to run the SAP HANA platform in controlled availability at 20-sockets - delivering up to 15 terabytes (TB) of in-memory computing capacity in a single node. Hortonworks, a provider of enterprise Hadoop, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Onyara, Inc., the creator of and key contributor to Apache NiFi, an open source project. The acquisition will make it easy for customers to automate and secure data flows fueling the fueling the "Internet of Anything (IoAT)" and to collect, conduct and curate real-time business insights and actions derived from data in motion. As a result of the acquisition, Hortonworks is introducing Hortonworks DataFlow powered by Apache NiFi, which was made available through the NSA Technology Transfer Program in the fall of 2014. The Hortonworks acquisition of Onyara is expected to close in the third quarter of 2015.

Basho Technologies, the creator and developer of Riak software, has announced that, in collaboration with Cisco, it has developed a framework enabling the Riak KV NoSQL database to run on Apache Mesos, bringing operational efficiency and high-elasticity to big data services. "The goal is to try and simplify and make it easy for clients to get business solutions as quickly as possible instead of worrying about the distributed data tier," said Adam Wray, CEO of Basho.

Chef, which is written in the Ruby programming language, makes it easier to manage complex infrastructure and the applications running on it.

IBM today announced a significant expansion of the mainframe's strategy of embracing open source-based technologies and open communities. The company disclosed it is shipping two Linux mainframe servers - called LinuxONE - which the company brands as "the most secure Linux servers in the industry." The company also announced it is ramping up its support for open source offerings on its mainframe systems.
