Teradata and EMC have collaborated to provide a certified backup and recovery approach for Teradata Database customers. The Teradata and EMC partnership was formed in October 2013 when Teradata certified the Data Domain Operating System 5.4. Teradata has also just certified EMC's latest product - the Data Domain DD720 - bringing greater backup performance improvements to customers.

To enable secure access to sensitive enterprise applications and data on mobile devices, Oracle rolled out the Oracle Mobile Security Suite, which, combined with Oracle's existing Identity and Access solutions, aims to deliver an integrated platform for managing access to all applications from a complete range of device types.

The newest version of DataStax's eponymously named enterprise database platform adds a new in-memory option as well as enterprise search enhancements to support high performance. Along with the latest release of its enterprise NoSQL database, DataStax has also introduced version 4.1 of DataStax OpsCenter which supplies improved capacity management capabilities and visual monitoring of production database clusters.

ISUG-TECH 2014 in Atlanta, April 14-17, will be the first technology event to explore the features and functionality in Sybase ASE 16. The conference will provide more than 150 hours of technical session, more than 60 hours of workshops, and more than 50 expert speakers, and a range of workshops, including the SAP ASE Quick Start for Oracle and SQL Server DBAs workshop which will double as a refresher course for people who had been Sybase DBAs but have not recently been in that role.

A new offering from Wharfedale Technologies Inc. (WFT Cloud) is designed to help companies migrate their existing implementations of the SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse application to the SAP HANA platform in a private cloud managed by WFT Cloud. The service by WFT Cloud includes an upgrade at no additional charge of the customer's existing implementation of SAP NetWeaver BW to version 7.3.

Oracle and Pluribus Networks have formed a technology access agreement. The arrangement is intended to offer customers the ability to use OpenStack plug-ins to manage their cloud environments based on Oracle Solaris and Pluribus Networks' Netvisor. This builds on the newly completed certification of Oracle Solaris 11 on Pluribus Networks' Freedom series Server-Switch platform, which is already allowing customers to take advantage of the unique performance, scalability, efficiency and security advantages of Oracle Solaris in their network infrastructure.

Splice Machine, provider of a real-time SQL-on-Hadoop database for big data applications, has completed a $15M Series B round of funding, led by InterWest Partners, along with returning Series A investor Mohr Davidow Ventures (MDV). Oracle has announced the fifth generation database machine, the Oracle Exadata Database Machine X4, which adds enhancements to improve performance and quality of service for OLTP, DBaaS (database as a service), and data warehousing. Tim Shetler, vice president of product management, Oracle, shared his views on the update in an interview. "There is no price change with this generation. It is the same price as before. We are just giving customers more capacity and more performance," said Shetler.
