The Boulder, Colorado-based software company was purchased for $103 million in cash. Confio's flagship product, Confio Ignite, improves software development and service delivery for systems based on Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, IBM DB2, and SAP Sybase databases, running on VMware virtual servers as well as physical servers.

Clustrix, provider of a scale-out SQL database engineered for the cloud, has been granted two new patents for systems and methods for redistributing and slicing data in relational databases from the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Veeam MP extends VMware monitoring, management and capacity planning to Microsoft System Center, providing complete visibility of physical and virtual infrastructures and applications, all from one console. The Veeam Management Pack connects the VMware virtual infrastructure and puts that data into Systems Center Operations Manager, and then the presentation is done through what is called the Management Pack, Doug Hazelman, Veeam vice president of product strategy, explained in an interview.

Macro 4, a software and services company, introduced an Eclipse interface for its mainframe application performance management software, FreezeFrame. The new interface gives developers and support staff extra features to enhance productivity and collaboration and makes it easier for new or less experienced mainframe support staff to work with z/OS systems. To augment its product and service offerings both within and outside of the cloud, TransLattice, a provider of a geographically distributed database management system for enterprise, cloud and hybrid environments, has acquired Red Bank, NJ-based StormDB, Inc. The StormDB database is based on PostgreSQL, and TransLattice expects to incorporate proprietary StormDB capabilities and elements of the open source Postgres-XC into the TransLattice Elastic Database.

NoSQL database vendor MongoDB today announced it has secured $150 million in financing, which the company described as the largest single funding round for any database vendor, NoSQL or otherwise. MongoDB, which is headquartered in Palo Alto and New York, will direct this funding toward the core MongoDB project, as well as toward the MongoDB Management Service, which provides tools and services to operate MongoDB at scale, and to growing its user base globally.
