BI Software provider MicroStrategy rolled out MicroStrategy Cloud Express, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution designed for "do-it-yourself" business analytics, mobile intelligence and data publishing. According to the company, the new solution enables any business person - regardless of technical skill - to access and analyze data on their own, as well as design and share mobile apps data-driven mobile apps without writing code.

Rocket Software has launched CorVu NG v2.2.3, merging U2 DataVu into its CorVu product for strategic performance management and business intelligence, and adding new features. U2 customers will be able to purchase the entire suite of CorVu Performance Management modules. The new release is targeted at addressing the needs of business users without necessitating high level IT support as well as enabling users to analyze a greater variety of data - including unstructured data. In addition, Rocket has announced SB/XA v6.2 and launched a new website.

MarkLogic Corporation announced the MarkLogic enterprise NoSQL database running directly on the Hadoop Distributed File System(HDFS). This will enable Hadoop customers to take advantage of MarkLogic enterprise features - such as ACID transactions, role-based security, full-text search, and the flexibility of a granular document data model for real-time applications - while also leveraging their existing Hadoop infrastructure. A MarkLogic Server technology preview, featuring Hadoop Distributed File System(HDFS) storage, is available from MarkLogic Developer Labs and MarkLogic expects the production release to be generally available in early 2013.

HiT Software, a provider of data replication and change data capture (CDC) solutions for heterogeneous database environments, has announced the release of DBMoto 7.2, which includes support for the Actian Vectorwise analytical database. "Vectorwise is a leading analytical database that is designed to deliver an incredible speed in returning queries on big data," Carolyn Hughes, director of marketing at HiT Software, tells 5 Minute Briefing. In turn, she notes, users also want to be able to get data into Vectorwise at the same level of speed so that their reporting and analytics can be as close to real time as possible. Sepaton, Inc. is shipping a next-generation data protection platform that features Hitachi Data Systems HUS 100 storage arrays for 25% more capacity, delivering what Sepaton says is 350% more single system capacity than other system on the market. IBM announced a tough third-quarter 2012, with revenues down across most sectors, with the exception of Websphere. For the quarter, IBM saw $3.8 billion in net profit on total revenues of $24.7 billion. The company's revenues were down 5% from the third quarter of 2011. Currency negatively impacted revenue growth by nearly $1 billion, the company adds.

Avere Systems, a provider of optimized network attached storage (NAS), announced its intent to develop a new joint solution with Fujitsu to provide customers with 100TB of capacity and 100,000 IOPs for $100,000 (US). Labeled the "100/100/100" bundle, the new solution marries the Fujitsu Core filer with UDS NAS controllers and ETERNUS DX80 S2 Disk Storage System with a two-node Avere FXT 3100 Edge filer cluster. "Avere's Edge filers give customers the ability to easily scale performance for the most demanding application workloads, while the Fujitsu storage systems deliver high capacity along with rich data management functionality," says Bill King, executive vice president, Platform Products Group of Fujitsu America.

Kognitio is allowing companies to download a fully functional copy of its software at no charge, and with no time restrictions. The company, which made the announcement at O'Reilly Strata and Hadoop World conference, said it is offering a full-featured, perpetual use license of up to 128 gigabytes without an expiration period or other limited functions normally found in "trialware." This capability gives companies the ability to do in-memory analytics on, for example, more than 500 million customer records at once.

SAP announced the availability of the SAP ERP Customer Order Entry mobile app on SAP Store. The mobile app, which is built on is built on the technology of Sybase Unwired Platform, connects an iPhone into the sales and distribution systems of wholesale distributors and consumer product providers, enabling their customers to have mobile access to supply orders in real time. The announcement was made at the SAP Retail Forum North America, held in Dallas earlier this month.

At SAP TechEd 2012 in Las Vegas, SAP unveiled its plans for SAP HANA Cloud, a next-generation cloud platform based on in-memory technology. As part of SAP HANA Cloud, the company also announced the general availability of SAP NetWeaverCloud, an open standards-based application service, and SAP HANA One, a deployment of SAP HANA certified for production use on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud, as the first offerings based on SAP HANA Cloud.

The opportunities and challenges presented by big data are addressed in a new report summarizing the results of a survey of data managers and professionals who are part of the Independent Oracle Users Group. The survey was underwritten by Oracle Corporation and conducted by Unisphere Research, a division of Information Today, Inc. Key highlights from the survey include the finding that more than one out of 10 data managers now have in excess of a petabyte of data within their organizations, and a majority of respondents report their levels of unstructured data are growing.

Development has started on Revelation Software's next release of OpenInsight (OI) which will include a 32-bit and 64-bit implementation of the product. OI 10.0 will include a range of new components, including an embedded web server in the OEngineServer for use with the O4W_CHILD_FORM and O4W_STANDALONE_FORM; a WYSIWYG O4W Form Designer; as well as provide increased performance on 64-bit operating systems.

UK-based Ladybridge Systems is making the OpenQM MultiValue database software available on the Raspberry Pi computer. The Raspberry Pi computer launched in February 2012 by the Raspberry Pi Foundation is a credit card-sized computer with a price tag of under $35, featuring 512MB RAM, SD card data storage, two USB ports, high definition video and Ethernet connectivity. Primarily intended as an educational tool, enthusiasts have purchased these devices as fast as they can be manufactured, says Ladybridge. "Making OpenQM available on the Raspberry Pi is one element of a project to increase awareness of the MultiValue data model," says Martin Phillips, technical director of Ladybridge Systems.

Since April 2012, Rocket Software's U2 team has published monthly updates for the Eclipse-based U2 DBTools to an online update site. Now, enhancements and fixes for all of the U2 DBTools products, such as U2 BASIC Developer Toolkit, U2 Extensible Administration Tool, and U2 Metadata Manager, can be installed directly through the Eclipse "Install New Software" facility. Through the integration between Entrinsik and SugarCRM, users can log into Sugar and access real-time reporting, data analysis and interactive dashboards. Varonis Systems Inc., a data governance software provider, has released DatAdvantage 5.8, offering customers greater flexibility and management in data governance for unstructured and semi-structured data. Varonis DatAdvantage 5.8 introduces internally developed collectors that can run alongside or instead of Varonis probes running Microsoft SQL. These collectors can collect the information without an SQL server, making implementation easier, improving performance, and reducing overhead. AT&T and IBM announced a business agreement to deliver a "network-enabled" cloud service that uses private networks rather than the public Internet. The companies are combining AT&T virtual private networking, new technology from AT&T Labs, and IBM SmartCloud Enterprise+ cloud capabilities to create what they say is a faster and more secure shared cloud service.
